Conservative commentator Glenn Beck has announced he’s breaking away from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) to form his own church.

“The Lord spoke to me the other night when I was getting gas,” said Beck in a press release. “God told me he wanted to talk to the world through me.”

The new church will be called the FIrst Church of Glenn. The sermons will be a combination of right-wing ideas and Mormon teachings. According to the press release, church members will not be barred from bringing firearms to services.

Beck is known for being a political commentator, but he has often said he gets messages from God and made prophetic predictions. Beck used to have a prime time show on FOX News, but parted way with the network after they tired of his on-air antics, which included crying, barking like a dog and pretending to douse a colleague with gasoline. He was also was roundly condemned for calling President Barack Obama a racist.

After he left FOX, Beck built his own subscription-based online TV network called The Blaze which is based in Texas. He also has an extensive media empire that produces books and television shows. A few years ago, Beck announced he planned to form a $2 billion libertarian compound called Independence, USA. Beck said libertarians can send their children to the compound to be “deprogrammed.”

Beck’s followers were excited about news of the church.

“I can’t wait for the church to open, so I can support it with my donations,” said Myra Watson of Little Rock, Ark. “Glenn Beck is God’s mouthpiece on earth.”

  1. Glenn doesn’t attend the Church of Latter-Day Saints. There’s no such church. The correct name of his church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
